Books

I personally love the feel of book in my hands rather than using an e-reader (plus, no blue light to impact your sleep pattern – win/win!). Find what works for you and go with it.  Don’t be afraid to change your mind and your direction.  Reading should be a joy, not a chore.

There are a vast array of books related to fertility available to buy or download. It’s impossible to read them all (believe me, I’ve had a very good try!) and it’s an incredibly good way to end up with data overwhelm and mental fatigue.

I would therefore recommend that you are selective in what you choose to read – cut yourself some slack and read only those books that are relevant to your situation, that you are going to find engaging and informative and that will make you feel empowered and in control.

I’ve detailed below some of my personal ‘top picks’.

Research

  1. It Starts With The Egg  If you can only buy or borrow one book for your fertility journey, this would be the one I recommend.  It contains a wealth of information about egg quality and what you can do to improve your chances of conception – both naturally and using assisted services.
  2. Is Your Body Baby Friendly? Unexplained Infertility, Miscarriage and IVF Failure, Explained

Diet and lifestyle

  1. Fertile – I love Emma Cannon (#fangirl) and have a number of her books.  She gives great advice in all of them.  This her most recent book and one I would recommend if you are considering something to support you with diet and lifestyle preparation to support conception naturally or through assisted services.
  2. Zita West’s Guide to Fertility and Assisted Conception: Essential Advice for Preparing your Body for IVF and Other Fertility Treatments
  3. Get a Life: His & Hers Survival Guide to IVF2
